Speak & Spells

After many hours of breaking old toys and eventually teaching myself how to successfully short circuit things without ruining them, I made a handful of playable instruments out of old Speak & Spells. One is on tour with Dredg and the Deftones, another is sitting at Mark Mothersbaugh’s (DEVO, Rugrats Yo, Gabba! Gabba!) studio in Hollywood, and the rest are safe with me.

In late 2008, a colleague and I decided to teach a class at Art Center College of Design on the art of Circuit Bending at Art Center for kids.
